ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE
Your room will usually be available from 15.00 hrs on the specified date of arrival. On your departure day we ask that you vacate your room by 11 am, otherwise you may be subject to an additional charge of up to one additional night’s stay.
All offers of accommodation and other services featured on the website are subject to availability and we reserve the right to refuse any booking.
CANCELLATION/ NON-ARRIVAL CHARGES
If for any reason you find it necessary to cancel your booking then please cancel your reservation through the channel through which the original reservation was processed. A cancellation reference will be given and should be retained for any cancellation. Cancellations and/or amendments must be made in line with the cancellation period of the appropriate channel before arrival. Please refer to the specified cancellation rules at the time the reservation was made. Cancellation and non-arrival charges apply where cancellations are not permitted or when less than the required period of notice is given to release the booking. Please refer to the specified cancellation rules at the time the reservation was made. Hotel 53 reserves the right to charge for one night’s accommodation per room booked if the above cancellation requirements are not met.
CHANGE OF BOOKING DETAILS
Reservations may be amended in line with the booking conditions accepted at the time of the original reservation/s. Changes may be made subject to those conditions and any deposit/prepayment held is subject to those booking terms at the time of the original reservation.

In the unlikely event that you have a problem during your stay you must bring it to the attention of the hotel management immediately, to ensure that we have an opportunity to rectify the problem. If you are not satisfied that the issue has been resolved, please submit details in writing as soon as possible to Management Hotel 53, 53 Piccadilly, York, YO1 9PL.
DAMAGE TO HOTEL PROPERTY
We reserve the right to charge guests the cost of rectifying damage, caused by the deliberate, negligent or reckless act of the guest to the hotel’s property or structure. Should this damage come to light after the guest has departed, we reserve the right to make a charge to the guest’s credit / debit card, or send an invoice for the amount to the registered address. We will however make every effort to rectify any damage internally prior to contracting specialists to make the repairs, and therefore will make every effort to keep any costs that the guest would incur to a minimum.
It is the hotel’s policy that all our guests have the right to be treated with dignity and respect and as a responsible host we believe that we have a duty to our guests to protect them from inappropriate behaviour. Should any actions by a guest be deemed inappropriate by the Duty Manager, or if any inappropriate behaviour is brought to the attention of the Duty Manager, the hotel reserves the right, after any allegations have been investigated, to take action against the guest. Depending on the severity of the guest actions, the Police may become involved at the hotel’s discretion, or guests may be asked to leave the hotel.
We have ironing equipment available on a request basis – the hotel also operates a laundry service.
We advise you to take out insurance to cover the cost of cancellation and other risks including loss or damage to personal belongings or personal accident. The hotel’s liability for guest belongings is generally limited under the Hotel Proprietors Act 1956. Our hotel maintains appropriate insurance cover where the hotel is at fault for any injury or loss or damage suffered by our guests.
You will need to provide a credit or debit card at the time of booking to secure your booking. Where a deposit or full payment is required in advance, by booking you are authorizing the debiting of the credit/debit card provided.
We accept the following methods of payment: American Express, MasterCard, Maestro, Visa & Visa/Delta.
If you do not pay in full prior to the day of your stay with us, you will be required to settle in full on arrival at Hotel 53 (less any deposit you have already paid).
Upon arrival a pre-authorization of £30.00* is required to cover any incidentals or charges that may be incurred during your stay. Any unused pre-authorized funds will be released after settlement of the final bill from the credit/debit card pre-authorized.
Should a different card be used to settle the final bill, the pre-authorization may take up to ten working days to be released, but this is entirely dependent on the card issuer.
Please also note that we cannot accept cheque payments without prior arrangements.
* During major sporting events a pre-authorization of £100 will be required per room.
We have a limited number of car parking bays available on a first come first served basis and spaces cannot be reserved. Charges: £10 per car per overnight stay If we have a bay available the Reception Team will issue you with a permit, which you need to display on your dashboard. Cars are parked at their owners risk and we cannot accept any responsibility for loss, damage or theft to vehicles parked on that car park.
The prices displayed on the website are a total for your requested stay. The room type and any meals, service or VAT (at the current rate) included are as specified. A minimum length of stay, deposit, cancellation and other conditions may apply to certain rates, as specified. SMOKING Smoking is prohibited in the hotel. This includes guest rooms, corridors, bar area and lavatories. Smoke alarms are fitted where necessary. Anyone found smoking in a guest room will be politely asked to stop as they will be breaking the law. They will also be charged £100.00 to clean the room for subsequent guests. Should the fact that smoking in the bedroom comes to light after the guest has departed, we reserve the right to make a charge to the guests credit / debit card, or send an invoice for the amount to the registered address.
TAMPERING WITH FIRE DETECTION SYSTEMS AND FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT
We reserve the right to take action against any guest found to have tampered / interfered with any fire detection equipment throughout the hotel, including detector heads in public areas and bedrooms, break glass points and fire extinguishers. Guests found to have tampered with any fire detection or fire fighting equipment will be charged with any costs incurred by the hotel due to their actions and additionally may be asked to leave the hotel. Depending on the severity of the guest actions, the Police may become involved at the hotel’s discretion. Should the fact that fire fighting or detection equipment had been tampered with come to light after the guest has departed, we reserve the right to make a charge to the guests credit / debit card, or send an invoice for the amount to the registered address.
