We were pleasantly surprised at how good this modern hotel was.
Very handy location. Town centre 5-10mins up the road,
Our double room was quite spacious and contained a couch. The room and adjoining bathroom were immaculately clean. Slept well, never heard a sound.
Would definitely stay at this York hotel again

So delighted to discover this place. Because I live in York , I rarely stay in local hotels ..but booking a few rooms for a staff conference , I wanted to be in town with the team , so tried this independent hotel for a change .
My default hotel, in town would usually be the Marriott (because of my loyalty card) or the Grad.. which I like .But this place was recommended to me by a local so I booked some rooms to try ..wow ! What a service! The staff here are simply the best. Our team meet in the finest hotels in the world a few times a year. So this was a departure from the norm rate wise..and I was a little nervous at the low price ..but the place is great ! How on earth the nearby Travelogue is still trading when this place is here is beyond me.. Some people will never learn! Great size rooms. Spotlessly clean, King size comfy beds , excellent power shower . Absolutely all you need. Every staff member was super helpful and the reception staff were among the very best and most professional we’ve ever encountered. Great local, knowledge, great dining tips. Even recommending one place I’d never even heard of ..That had just opened that week. Simply terrific service! We stayed on June 30th and I’ve seen an odd underwhelming review since we stayed. Which is unusual to me as this place without doubt is excellent value..I think some people are a little new to the concept of hotel accommodation , and pre authorizing credit cards ..So maybe should get out more! .The hotel was apparently sold out on our visit so we were lucky to get 5 rooms ..and I’m not surprised ..we booked direct on their website and got a great deal ..so this is where our staff and customers will always stay in York in future ..well done Hotel 53 !

Stayed over for one night and couldn’t have picked a better hotel!! Perfect location, very clean and modern. All the staff were very friendly, helpful and couldn’t do enough for you!! Love the cocktails we had in the bar and the breakfast was really good quality. Very comfy bed…and was great that we could leave our bags after checking out so we could spend the day around York!! Will definitely be returning- Chelsea

I’d stayed at Hotel 53 before and liked the feel of the hotel and rooms, all smart for a boutique hotel. However this week I arrived after a business meeting feeling totally exhausted – I was distinctly post-viral and later discovered I’d picked up a throat infection. The staff were all solicitous of me especially when I went down for an early dinner. When I explained I didn’t feel like wine with dinner because of my sore throat, the waiter immediately brought me lemon and ginger tea supplemented with honey from the breakfast buffet. He then proceeded to replenish this tea through the meal, and asking (in a sincere way) about how I was feeling. The duty manager came by and said how sorry he was that I couldn’t enjoy his hotel as much as I would liked, and gave me a (free) small glass of medicinal whisky and discount offer for my next visit. It wasn’t the freebies that cheered me up it was the very genuine way all the staff I met were so kind and looked after me so well.

The other things that cheered me were a great 70’s mix tape playing in the background (remember ‘You ain’t seen nothing yet’? ) and the fact that the room was dark and comfortable and I had a good sleep despite my coughing fits. So all in all a very well deserved 5 stars and I’ll certainly be back.

Beautiful long weekend away with my mum and 2 sisters, amazing staff who made us feel individual. Certainly will be returning Thank you to you all

Stayed for one night at the end of February! Could not fault the hotel, the room was stunning, staff on reception were extremely friendly all while what seemed to be a refurbishment of the area happening, this didn’t affect us in anyway. Car park was useful and the hotel itself is in a great location. Will be sure to book in to hotel 53 next time we’re in York.

Recently visited the beautiful city of York over the Easter break and stayed at Hotel 53 for two nights. Lovely hotel, great location. Dan, restaurant supervisor was amazing. Great guest service, nothing was too much trouble. A very passionate and hard working young man. Ate dinner in the restaurant one evening, compliments to the chef. Breakfast great too.

On our arrival we were greeted by the courteous, helpful staff… The room was perfect… Immaculately clean and proportioned… A very good shower and nice comfy bed… Located near to most everything we needed in the city… Breakfast was good with plenty of choice…

My husband and I spent four nights at this fantastic establishment and absolutely loved it! The reception staff were always polite and helpful, the rooms were comfortable and very clean with a lovely shower. The hotel is situated within walking distance to most of the must sees of York.

The highlight, without a doubt, was the restaurant. We ended up going twice during our stay, the food was outstanding! My husband had the steak and I had the pork escalopes, both of which are two of the nicest mains we’ve ever had anywhere. The head chef Peter is very talented!! The service on both occasions was impeccable, Daniel served us one our last night and the lovely Mitch on the first night, cannot fault either of them.

Just back from a 2 night stay in this lovely hotel. The hotel was everything we were looking for, it was spotless and modern and in the best location, just a 5 minute walk from the centre. Could not fault this place.

Very clean and modern hotel in a great location both any for the main shopping and tourist attractions also close to the Barbican Theatre. Staff very polite and helpful and rooms very comfortable and clean. Had a great nights sleep.

I have just stayed at this hotel and can not fault it one bit. The rooms are very modern and clean. The beds are so comfy and it was perfect. I stayed bed and breakfast and have to say it’s definitely worth paying the extra.

“Wonderful room, clean and warm. Brilliant shower, lovely staff. Even had a sofa which gave it a more homely feel. We will come back again!”

– Jill

“The room and location were great, but the breakfasts were out of this world. There was a huge amount to choose from, and they could even cater for my gluten free needs! I’d definitely stay there again.”

“This will always be my first choice of hotels when staying at York. I’ve always been really happy with the service and appearance of the hotel. The staff are very friendly, which I think is important especially when you have young children, and it’s in a great location.”

“Stayed here for my husband’s birthday and we weren’t disappointed. The staff were great and very friendly. Brilliant location and we will definitely return.”

“This hotel is in a great York location with old ruins virtually on your doorstep, a real bonus for photography buffs. The room we had was modern, very clean and with a very comfortable bed.”

Amazing place, amazing staff and just amazing! My now fiancé proposed to me yesterday whilst we were in the room. I want to thank the staff for being so lovely and arranging some beautiful flowers to be in the room. Thank you for making my engagement extra special. The lady who served us yesterday and today on reception was amazing. Will definitely come again soon!- Laura
