The city of York received the international accolade of Best Europe Destination in June 2007.  Gillian Cruddas, chief executive of York Tourism Bureau, said: "We're thrilled to win this prestigious award. It is a huge endorsement for everyone involved in tourism in York."

This therefore means that York has been voted the best tourism destination in EUROPE. It had stiff competition from Gothenburg and Valencia, but was still given this impressive award.
