‘250 Years of Terry’s’ – 2017 Exhibition at York’s Chocolate Story – Opens 17th March

Celebrate 250 years of one of history’s most iconic confectioners, this exhibition at York’s Chocolate Story will showcase a selection of the most interesting of the Terry’s products, as well as exploring the social impact on York itself over the last 250 years.

‘York’s Sweet Past’ at The Castle Museum – Opens 1st April

Delve into the delicious history of some of the world’s most iconic chocolates and sweets this Easter as York Castle Museum takes you on a chocolatey tour of sweets galore. There’s fun for all with sweet making machines, chocolate factories, tasting sessions and workshops. 

Jorvik Viking Centre Re-Opens – 8th April

The date has finally been set for the long-anticipated reopening of the Jorvik Viking Centre. Following the infamous York floods of December 2015, the Jorvik centre was forced to close down temporarily due to extensive damage. However, they have now undergone a multi-million pound refurbishment and are set to open their doors to the residents and visitors of York on 8th April 2017 with new experiences, galleries, and much more.

York Easter Family Festival – 14th-17th April

There’s something for the whole family this Easter in York. From Easter egg hunts and other outdoor activities, to choirs and concerts at York Minster, there will be plenty of fun for everyone!

Experience the Theatre Classics in York – various dates

Enjoy an array of on-stage classics across York’s two primary theatre venues throughout Spring 2017. Kicking off with a musical inspired by the hit 1980s movie, ‘Footloose’ is sure to get your toes tapping and get you into that dancing mood (May 2nd-6th, Grand Opera House). Next up, the hugely successful Vienna Festival Ballet will be performing Swan Lake the world’s most popular ballet, and the classic fairy tale, Cinderella (May 9th-10th, Grand Opera House). Concluding a month of fantastic shows, The York International Shakespeare Festival will arrive at the Theatre Royal from 15th-20th May. Delivering explosive productions of timeless pieces such as Romeo and Juliet, Othello, and The Twelfth Night, the Shakespeare Festival has something for everyone to enjoy. 

York Races – ‘Dante Festival’ 17th-19th May, ‘First Saturday’ 27th May

It’s that time of year again, so shine your shoes and place your bets as we prepare for the return of the famous York Races, kicking off with the Dante Festival on 17th May, the first of many race meetings throughout 2017. Set your social summer off in style with a day at the races, the scent of newly mown grass and freshly planted flowers add to the sense of new beginnings with a definite buzz in the air.

York in May is a fantastic place to come racing, the season lies ahead and many star horses have risen to prominence on the Knavesmire over these three fantastic days. The Tattersalls Musidora and the Betfred Dante victors will be amongst favourites for the Classics.
